Who can apply

Eligibility rules

  1. Applicants must have the nationality of Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine or of one of the European Countries represented in the Partnership.
  2. Nationals of Belarus, Ukraine or Moldova must not have resided nor have carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in one of the European countries at the moment of the submission of the application.
  3. Applicants must not have already benefited from a scholarship for the same type of mobility under another project under the Erasmus Mundus Action 2 (EMA2) programme or Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window (EMECW).
  4. Applicants need to comply with the Target Group and level of mobility requirements.
  5. Applicants must have sufficient knowledge of the language of instruction of the Host University.
  6. Applicants from Belarusian, Moldovan, or Ukrainian universities must choose universities in the EU and vice versa. 

Target Groups

The EMP-AIM scholarships are offered to three Target groups of applicants. It is essential to identify which Target group you belong to before applying, and note that not all types and levels of mobility are available within all Target groups.

Nationals of the European countries who are registered in one of the European Partner University of the EMP-AIM at the time of application.
Undergraduate, Master, Doctorate, Post-Doctorate
Target
Group 2
Nationals of Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine, who are registered in a higher education institution of these countries that is not included in the partnership, or who have obtained a university degree or equivalent by an institution of these countries. This includes the possibility of providing mobility opportunities to nationals of Belarus, Moldova Ukraine working in public administration, public and private enterprises.Master (not applicable for the academic year 2014/2015), Doctorate (only for Belarus and Moldovan citizens in the academic year 2014/2015), Post-Doctorate (not applicable for the academic year 2014/2015)
Target
Group 3
Nationals of Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine, who are in particularly vulnerable situations, for social and political reasons. For example:
1) having a refugee status or asylum beneficiaries (international or according to the national legislation of one of the European recipient countries) or
2) it can be proved that they have been the object of unjustified expulsion from university on racial, ethnic, religious, political, gender or sexual inclination or
3) they belong to an indigenous population targeted by a specific national policy or IDPs (Internally Displaced Persons
Undergraduate, Master 

Type of mobility 

EMP-AIM allows 2 types of students mobility either as exchange students or degree seeking students defined in the following:

Exchange students

The following applicants are eligible to apply as exchange students:
  • Target Group 1: Undergraduate, Master, Doctorate or Post-doctorate level students,
  • Target Group 2: Master (not applicable for the academic year 2014/2015), Doctorate or Post-doctorate (not applicable for the academic year 2014/2015) level students.
Exchange student is registered at a university (home university) and temporarily studies at another university of the Partnership (host university). Exchange students do not obtain a degree diploma from the host university. However, all academic results will be transferred to the student’s home university and will be recognized. Full recognition is guaranteed by employing two ECTS tools: the Learning Agreement and transcript of records. In addition, the Partners commit to use the ECTS system or to convert the local grades and credits into the ECTS system in order to facilitate the academic recognition for each participating student.

Degree seeking students

The following applicants are eligible to apply as degree seeking students:
  • Target Group 2: Master and Doctorate level students (not applicable for the academic year 2014/2015),
  • Target Group 3: Undergraduate and Master (not applicable for the academic year 2014/2015) level students.
Degree seeking student is registered at one European university and is not registered at any other university. Degree seeking students will obtain a degree diploma at Bachelor or Masters level from the university where they have performed their studies after fulfilling all requirements needed to be issued with the degree. Students applying for degree programmes must meet the local admission requirements and must adhere to the standard individual application procedure at the institution to which they are applying.
Students registered at a Partner university at the time of application to a degree programme are defined as Target Group 1 applicants.

 Level of mobility 

Undergraduate

Target Group 1 students must have completed at least 1 year of undergraduate university studies. Target Group 3 applicants are eligible to apply if they hold a Secondary School Diploma.

Note. The 4th year bachelor degree students or the last year students who study the five-year duration programmes are eligible to apply for the Target group 1 Master for exchange type of mobility with a condition that the same applicant must enter a Master programme at their home university (at the same university they are enrolled at the moment of application). Such applicant must provide additional letter from their home university about when the admission results are to be known.

Master

Applicants are eligible to apply if they have finished their Undergraduate studies.

Exception. Last year Bachelor degree students enrolled at EMP-AIM Partner University can submit applications as Target Group 1 Exchange students at Master level. This means that an applicant should enter the same university to which he/she is enrolled at the moment of on-line application for Master Degree studies starting in autumn 2014. In the on-line application such applicant should upload additional letter from Home University confirming that he/she is graduating in 2014 and indicating when the results of Master Degree admission shall be known.

Doctorate

Applicants are eligible to apply if they have completed a Master programme or have started PhD studies already. Students who are still enrolled in a master program at the time of submitting the application cannot apply for Doctorate mobility.

Post-Doctorate

Applicants are eligible if they hold a Doctorate degree. EU citizens applying for post-doctorate must have obtained their doctorate in the last 2 years. The post-doctorate activity abroad may consist in research, training and/or attending highly specialized courses.

Staff

Staff mobility is open to both academic and administrative Staff of partner universities. The staff exchange may constitute a post-per-post exchange or a one-way visitor flow to or from the Third Countries concerned by the project.

Staff undertaking a period of teaching, training or research in a partner University must:
1. work in or be associated to one of the participating institutions;
2. be fully integrated into the Department or Faculty of the host institution with a full time contract;
3. agree on the programme of lectures to be delivered, on the research activities or on the type of training to be followed.

Staff members applying for the scholarships will have to motivate how their stay abroad shall influence the improvement of higher education in their country, also how the activities abroad will change the academic (such as teaching methods, curriculum development, learning material development, planned development of joint research or teaching with EU partner, recognition of studies in EU HEI) or administrative activity (in terms of higher education management, student and staff mobility management, recognition of studies abroad/credit transfer issues) in their home institution.
